Moving – I am sure your stomach dropped when you read that word, or is that just me? We can all agree that moving is no fun task. Here are the top 3 reasons why I think moving is spine-chilling.
Why I hate moving!
Moving is overwhelming
Where do you even start? Is packing supposed to be first? Or am I supposed to have made a spreadsheet first? I need a glass of wine already and I only just thought about moving.
As someone who has moved at least once every 3-4 years, you would think I would have somewhat of a plan. Considering that I absolutely hate moving, I always just wing it. It never gets easier. Ever. You may get better at it, you learn some tricks to make things painless, but in the end…it’s still dreadful.
Moving is STRESSFUL. When you are younger, think college days, going from your dorm room to your first shared apartment with a roommate, to another shared apartment with roommates – because the said first roommate left dishes in the sink – moving doesn’t seem too bad.
Moving is stressful, especially for your body
Moving at a young age seems easier than it is. Your family members help out, or you bribe your friends with some beer and pizza and it’s a party! Moving when you are younger is almost, dare I say it, fun!
But my college days are long gone and so is the strength in my friends, as well as my lower back. Lifting a gallon of milk is a struggle some days, and now I have to worry about a whole couch? We might not want to admit it but as we mature our bodies get brittle, our patients thins out and we get annoyed by the smallest change.
Now that I am older, and some would say wiser, I am grateful I can hire movers. I get to enjoy that pizza and beer without the fear of breaking my back. I can make my cheerleading dreams come true and support a team of professional movers from the sidelines.
Is there something worse than moving?
Now you might think, moving – ugh worst of the worst. But I just realized there is even a worse evil than moving – packing! As much as I hate moving, I loathe packing. The idea of packing my whole house doesn’t spark any joy whatsoever. Marie Kondo wouldn’t be able to help this situation.
All of the boxes, tripping over said boxes, packing materials, shrink wrap, tape – how is it that I still don’t know how to properly use tape? – It gives me a headache just thinking about it!
On top of all of that, there is supposedly science behind how we are supposed to pack up the boxes. This is news to me. I always thought throwing everything that fits in a box is the way to go. Can I just hire someone to do this for me?
Should you hire professional movers?
Hiring professional movers is the smart way to go, but where to start?
The first time I hired movers was an experience, to say the least. I didn’t know about reviews, ratings, or reputations.
That being said, my first piece of advice when hiring movers is to research many companies, compare their services, and read the reviews! Read up on them, see what other people are saying and make sure you know you are choosing the right company for you.
Another thing to think about is, what are you looking to move?
Are you looking for some strong muscle to help lift your large dining room table? Want to make sure your grandma’s chest doesn’t get damaged? Don’t want to deal with the hassle of packing up your kitchen?
There are many different services that moving companies offer. Knowing what you are looking for will make the process easier and less stressful.
